Film Review of Ice Age 3 Dawn of The Dinosaurs: A Baby Mammoth, a Blended Family, Dinosaur Triplets, Jungle Secrets, and Subterranean Feuds on Post-Ice Age Planet Earth
The imminent birth of a family’s first baby can be exciting for a happily married couple. The excitement can leave close friends feeling a bit left out and turning to other interests. What happens when one friend takes a first look at foster parenting outside his own species and another takes a second look at predatory skills proves that one giant ground sloth and one saber-toothed cat as well as two opossums and two woolly mammoths are Best Friends Forever, in the movie “Ice Age 3: Dawn of the Dinosaurs”.

Ice Age 3: Dawn of the Dinosaurs is a computer-animated adventure comedy film by writers Peter Ackerman, Michael Berg, Yoni Brenner, and Mike Reiss; producers John C. Donkin and Lori Forte; and director Carlos Saldanha and Michael Thurmeier. Responsibility for editing and music is by Harry Hitner and John Powell. The production studio is Blue Sky Studios.
The film lasts 90+ minutes. The distributor was 20th Century Fox. The U.S. release date was July 1, 2009.
The film begins with Manny and Ellie (Ray Romano and Queen Latifah) the woolly mammoths (Mammuthus primigenius) expecting their first baby. Diego focuses on predatory skills against a gazelle (Bill Hader). Sid helps cave eggs hatch into lizard-like dinosaur (Tyrannosaurus) triplets Eggbert, Shelly, and Yoko (Carlos Saldanha).
Ellie and Manny blame tyrannosaur rambunctiousness for destroying their first-born’s customized playground. But they feel badly when Momma tyrannosaur abducts her triplets and Sid. Diego follows tyrannosaur tracks through a cave and underground tunnel into the jungles of non-extinct dinosaurs. Ellie, Manny, and Ellie’s foster brothers Crash and Eddie (Seann William Scott and Josh Peck) the opossums (Didelphidae) join him.
Buckminster (Simon Pegg) the one-eyed weasel (Mustela) defends the quintet against armored dinosaurs (Ankylosaurus). He escorts the quintet to Momma tyrannosaur’s home at Lava Falls. He gets everybody across a chasm filled with helium and laughing gas fumes. Travelers tumble to their deaths from walking unsteadily while laughing uncontrollably.
Tyrannosaur-like dinosaurs (Guanlong) attack the six friends. Ellie goes into labor. Buck, Crash, and Eddie leave Diego and Manny behind.
Buck and both brothers board a flying reptile (Pteranodon). Toothless pterosaurs (Quetzalcoatlus) give chase. The pteranodon rescues Sid. Sid languishes on a lava river-floating rock where Rudy the albino lizard-hipped dinosaur (Baryonyx) throws him during a tyrannosaur outing.
Ellie gives birth to daughter Peaches, the couple’s code-name for going into labor. Rudy is waiting when the eight friends return above-ground. The males have Rudy immobilized and unconscious … until accidentally freed by Sid. Momma tyrannosaur pushes Rudy off a cliff before her triplets bid Sid farewell. Rudy returns through the tunnel, whose entrance he blocks, when he hears Rudy’s underground roars.
The film ends with Scrat (Chris Wedge) the saber-toothed squirrel (Cronopio dentiacutus) loving Scratte (Karen Disher) the saber-toothed flying squirrel. A volcano erupts when Scratte hits the ground with the couple’s acorn. The acorn tumbles underground with Scratte.
Ice Age 3: Dawn of the Dinosaurs offers a colorful, fantastic, imaginative interpretation of missing dinosaurs through the adventures of prehistoric animals.
