So, I went and saw Fast and Furious not too long ago, and it was surprisingly a lot of fun to watch. The characters from the first movie make thier return in fine fashion. Even Han, from Tokyo Drift makes an appearance in the earlier part of the movie, making this movie a prequel of sorts as the time line pretty much sets this movie in between 2Fast 2Furious and Tokyo Drift. Using this setting works rather well as the plotlines from the other movies seem to fit together nicely within the story of this one.
Having said that, this is not the “best movie ever” and it certainly is not “award worthy.” This movie is entertainment pure and simple. It is a movie about street racing, and the subcultures that are associated, or supposedly associated with it. And while some of these are a little over blown and can be hard to believe, the overall movie does not stray too far from reality. The cars take realistic damage from mostly realistic situations. There are a few parts here and there, that are unbelieveable, but for the most part, the movie is enjoyable to watch. The characters are familiar and the action is quick paced.
I give this movie a 3.5 out of 5 stars. It is definitely worth a look, but it is not a theatre must. You could definitely wait to rent the movie, but for an entertaining night at the theatre this movie will do just fine.
